HAPPY BIRTHDAY THE ITALIAN CELTS

September 8, 2008 by memocelts

Happy Birthday!!!

One year is not a long time in life, but in our life of Celts means a lot. Even, allow me to say that it means everything. So, thanks to our forum online, thanks to Celtic, our team that makes us go crazy or makes us happy but, most of all, allow us to stay all together as a big family. As happens in every family, then, everyone has his own opinion, gets angry, is moved to tears, especially when one of our hero leaves the team, or jumps for joy for every hard-earned victory; our birthday is all these things together and even more. I want to make a praise to all the people who do a lot of things for the forum and the club and don’t receive anything back. Only, but it’s a very important thing, they increase their and our passion for Celtic, a passion that by now it’s part of us and we have in our blood. Secondly, I wish that both the forum and the club, that is our big family, will continue for a long time and that this can make us grow up not only as football supporters but also as men. Finally I want to thank with all my heart Max Troiani from Rome, the first person who published online our blog “Memocelts”.

TRIBUTE TO PHIL O’DONNELL AND TOMMY BURNS

May 27, 2008 by memocelts

Yesterday was a fantastic day for all the people who went to the Paradise: Celtic legends who won the Spl title in 1998, in fact, returned to dress the Hoops and to play a match on the field of the Celtic Park. They met again not only to remember a team-mate, who passed away tragically at the beginning of the year, but most of all, a great man: Phil O’Donnell.

Yesterday the memory of Phil wasn’t the only one, because another memory came across with it: the memory of another great legend of the Bhoys, Tommy Burns, who passed away only few weeks ago. To these two magnificient people, everybody wanted to give indeed a special farewell. In a “sold-out” Celtic Park, everybody was able to admire the deeds of these champions who faced Phil’s last team: Motherwell.

People could also admire King Henrik Larsson, once again on the field of the Celtic Park dressing the hoops. The same Larsson, despite he isn’t a youngster anymore, will defend the colours of his national team during Euro2008. Also our honorary president, Enrico Annoni, participated in this marvellous day. The match, for the chronicle, ended with the victory of Celtic legends 5-1. Goals were scored by Weighorst 10, Larsson 24, Brattbakk 30, 36 and Jackson 91.

These are the line-ups:

CELTIC LEGENDS (4-4-2) Gould (Kerr 41, Marshall 62); Boyd (McNamara 62), Reiper (MacKay 36), Annoni (Reiper 51, McLaughlin 56), Johnson (McKinlay 46); McNamara (Donnelly 36, Brattbakk 75), Burley, Lambert (McKenna 67, Johnson 82)), Weighorst; Larsson (McKenna 7), Brattbakk (Jackson 36).
MOTHERWELL LEGENDS (4-4-2) Woods (Dijkstra 30); Griffin (Wishart 10, O’Neill 62, Boyd 70), McCart (Martin 3), McKinnon (Angus 84); Clarkson (Leitch 46), Angus (Dolan 38), Patterson (Philliben 15, Patterson 25), Nijholt (Balmer 56, O’Donnell 67, Ferguson 82), McFadden (O’Donnell 6, Kirk 28); Arnott (Coyne 30, Clarkson 67, Kirk 82), Ferguson (McGrillen 34, Arnott 73).

On our spaces (http://theitalianceltscsc.spaces.live.com) you can admire a lot of photos of this wonderful day.

WHO WOULD HAVE SAID IT!THOUGHTS OF A CHAMPION PRESIDENT

May 23, 2008 by memocelts

Who would have said it! Raise his hand who was among the protesters and doesn’t hide himself.. Because everyone can be wrong, but the main thing is to admitt to be wrong. Especially in our great family of Celtic supporters. It isn’t in my nature to speak badly of someone:most of all, if that someone is someone who belongs to our loved club. Chapeau to wee Gordon, to whom goes the greatest worth; behind him all the players who have contributed to this great come-back that only on March 29 (so, less than 60 days ago) seemed a chimera. It remembers me the come-back of 1986 on the Hearts. Even that year, it ended in this way: our rivals defeated 2-0 and the Celtic supporters rejoycing on the terraces. And who would have said it. In 1978 when for the first time I took coscience of the “Celtic world” reading, for curiosity, the Panini football almanac? Who would have said it, that after 30 years, I would be still here, rejoicing with a community of “crazy” Italian Celtic supporters? Who would have said it, that, only few days ago, I was nearly crying because of a player who dies during the best years of his life? Who would have said it, that this morning I would be able to see the joy, the happiness of my 4-year old daughter that embraces me, wearing her Celtic jeans and tells me: “Daddy, Celtic has won. Do you know?”. Sometimes I think about the strangeness of certain passions, but then I think a little bit more and I am happy because strangeness has in itself the joy of sharing something, of knowing new faces, of living new experiences, of laughing, suffering, even crying all together as a family. A great family. The great family of Celtic.

CHAMPIONS CHAMPIONS CHAMPIONS 3 IN A ROW

May 23, 2008 by memocelts

Football is a wonderful sport: football gives you joys and satisfactions, but football can also take away titles you think you can conquered. We were crying at the end of the 2004/2005 Spl season, when a gol scored by Scott McDonald gave the title to the Rangers. Last night, on the other hand, we were shouting all our joy for the title, the third in a row, for our beloved Celtic. The Bhoys were playing their last match at Tannadice Park, against Dundee United, while Rangers were playing at Aberdeen, at Pittodrie. We won 1-0, they lost 2-0 and the title come back to Paradise. What a night…

Celtic played the match with the same eleven players who defeated the Hibs. Celtic began the match trying to score with McGeady and Barry Robson, but also Dundee United played pretty well. After the first half the result was 0-0, but also at Pittodrie Rangers didn’t score. So Celtic were still ahead, because of a better goal difference, of the rivals.

At the beginning of the second half Celtic tried again to score the goal which could secure the third Spl title in a row. The goal, however, didn’t come from Tannadice Park, but from Pittodrie: it was munute 66 and the goal we are talking about wasn’t scored by the Rangers, but by Aberdeen. 1-0 for the men in Reds and, at Tannadice Park, Celtic supporters could express all their joy. The title, at that point, was very near: and to bring the title even nearer for Gordon Strachan’s men was an impressive header by Vennegor of Hesseling, at minute 71, after a corner beated by Paul Hartley. The joy at that point was complete, and the party was already starter when Aberdeen at minute 77 scored the second goal. Celtic supporters at Tannadice Park began singing, shouting and jumping till the final whistle and (obviosly) also after the match. At the end of the match also the players’ party could start: and the first thought of all the players, Gordon Strachan and all the Celtic people went to Tommy Burns. Strachan called all his players in a big, wonderful huddle and thanked them for the season and the Spl title. It’s three in a row, the Spl number 42 in Celtic history, and it comes after a great come-back (with seven victories in the last seven match) against Rangers. And who was one of the heroes of this came-back? Scott McDonald, the same Scott McDonald who “stole” from Celtic’s hands the Spl title in 2004/2005. A come-back, and a victory which are dedicated to the memories of Tommy Burns and Phil O’Donnell, two of the great Celtic family.

And, last but not least, this is also the first Spl title for us, The Italian Celts, and so our joy is a double joy. Thanks to everybody, because, at the beginning of the season, nobody was thinking that, in the end, he would have been here celebrating the Spl title with a lot of other people who love the hoops.

What a Great Day!!!!

April 11, 2008 by memocelts
Here are the thoughts of a president, who after this meet-up felt even more honoured to be so, for the simple act of shaking hands, the friendly backslapping, the exchange of many a joke, though not with everyone present (for this I apologise, it was not out of lack of respect but the frenetic tempo of the day and lack of time prevented me from getting to chat to all present – I remember at least 3-4 guys who I didn’t even say hi to – even a person from Ascoli I think…I again apologise). However even the meeting up with others in the morning to head out in the mini bus was really good fun thanks to the happy exuberance of Bifo and Diego. Add to them the ‘madness’ of the owner of the mini bus, Massimo, the last minute arrival of Thommylow and the smiling faces of Sara and Irene (our Scottish member, so lovely a person too). The journey was spent watching a few DVDs about the history of Celtic which had Bifo and the others even more pleasantly astonished. The stop at the auto grill on the motorway in order to pick up Jimmyglesga with his amazing collection of Celtic scarves and a well deserved snack of bread, salami and beer aided our increasing adrenaline as we got closer to Florence. Finally we arrived at the pub, the first people we met, the handshaking, the smiling faces, all of these made the day unforgettable. I happily remember the joke played on Bifo, as well as the fact that we behaved completely polite and civilised so as to present ourselves as ‘true’ Celtic fans (others should use this as a good example for themselves – I want to say that as I knew of the responsibility on my shoulders and can proudly hold my head high). The final score was painful for all of us, our faces even in defeat kept the happiness of (finally) getting to meet one another from all over Italy( and showed how wrong are those who say that when football brings us together we become rabid animals in our behaviour).
There is no point in saying it really but I will reiterate it again anyway, my work will continue on this road that we have started on: we will do our utmost to achieve our next objective: to travel to Glasgow as a group in the 2008/2009 season.
Hail Hail

Who are?The Italian Celts – est 2007

April 6, 2008 by memocelts

Dear Bhoys

The Italian Celtic supporters club, ‘The Italian Celts’, was officially inaugurated on 5 September 2007.  Our club is officially affiliated to the association which unites Celtic supporters clubs throughout the world. The idea behind the club is to bring together all those who have the interests of the ‘green and whites’ at heart, making available and information blog ‘Memocelts’ for informative interaction, providing, at the same time, useful information for anyone wanting to follow Celtic in Scotland or in Europe, with the benefit of being able to have encounters enabling you to speak privately from the heart about our club. The founder members are: (in alphabetical order) Alessandro Boretti, Roberto Longobardi, Roberto Ruggieri and Max Troiani.

We would ask all those who would intend joining to read our constitution (ask for it by email at italiancelts@yahoo.it) and to abide by it. This idea is born of a long standing passion for Celtic, which had arisen in the past with the creation of two Celtic supporters clubs, the first as long ago as 1990 called the ‘ Packie Bonner number 1 CSC’ and the second in 1993 called ‘The Italian Bhoys CSC’. We hope that the’ green and white’ passion can expand beyond our circle of friendship and last as long as possible.

INTERVIEW WITH LUCA SANTONOCITO

April 6, 2008 by memocelts

We begin 2008 in the sign of the hope and we begin it with an interview with Luca Santonocito, the young Italian centralmidfielder, that since september of the last year has gone to reinforce the Italian presence in the Bhoys. Thanks Luca for your availability during the christmas festivities and we predict that 2008  will be rich with success in the hope that flag of the glorious Celtic can become one.

How are you doing with the language?

With the language good, I understand nearly everything that is said to me, when speaking I have still some difficulty even if it will not be long till that improves. On the pitch I makes myself understood well.

How do you understand the technical terms of the Pitch?

As I integrated myself with them, consequently I learned the technical terms and the ways to communicate with the team, aided by gestures like in Italy.

Which difference is between our training and theirs?

The Italians are above all based on technique and tactics and with the rhythm of game; the Scots there is less technique and tactics, a lot more physical and stamina training, the training is always relaxed and happy. Moreover, I train myself every day except Wednesday, I have two games at the weekend, and some days the training sessions are both morning and afternoon, other times in the gym.

How are relationships with the technical staff and management?

They are THE BEST, Willie McStay, reserve team coach, together with Strachan want to work with the reserve squad, but through necessity and success against Rangers, I  have played with all of the three teams, and I think that would possibly happened still however, in my comparison they have a great respect.

Have you found any differences, and which, between the youth sector of Celtic and that of Italians?

Obviously, it’s an other structure, an other organization, also the relationship between trainers and players is diverse, much more on the student level, for an example we joke lots with the coach,  there isn’t much tension and where there is it is a lot reduced. This creates a calm atmosphere.

What pushed you to make the important decision to leave Italy for Scotland?

First, the fact that they have seen me in Italy and they deliberately made  me do a trial , the result of which you know. Moreover I come from Inter, squad of great level, but they prefer foreigners over the national students where I played, even though less than a year. This point I have accepted with joy and the awareness of what was happening to me, promising not to disappoint anyone, from here my promise, if possible to become one that makes it at Celtic.

From the comparisons that surely will have been made, who that have seen you play, to who  are you similar to game style?

I think that I do not to know to how to give an answer, because when someone compared me to some player that I know only from the name and at my age, have not been able to see them, would not know to express a judgment, I have not been identified with anyone even currently, if I could resemble anyone, someone like Rossi, a complete player from my point of view.

The Celtic History

April 6, 2008 by memocelts

On 6th  November 1887, in a meeting at St.Mary’s church on the Glasgow East End, the Celtic Football Club was officially founded by catholic priest, Brother Walfrid. The aim was to raise money in favour of the children of Glasgow East End. Brother Walfrid’s inspiration came from the Hibernian F.c., Edinburgh football side, whom was formed by irish people living in the capital. On 28th may 1888 the team played his real first official match against the archrival of Rangers F.c.. the final score was a win for 5-2. For that match, Hibernian loaned 8 players to the Bhoys (nickname for Celtic). The St. Mary’s church is still there nowadays, just 5 minutes walking from Celtic Park.
